    How to pay

    Fees for all visa categories are listed below. All fees are applicable for each applicant, and are not normally refundable. The fees shown below are payable in the Malawi Kwacha equivalent according to the consular rate of exchange.

    Important: If you would be travelling to the UK for the first time for a visit, please apply only for a 'visit visa' valid for 6-months. The issuing of a visa is at the discretion of the visa officer at the UK Border Agency. Please ensure that the application is submitted at the UK Border Agency visa application centre upon payment of the visa fee into the British High Commission account.

    Electronic Fund Transfers and direct debit payments are presently not accepted. The acknowledgement of the visa fee payment The acknowledgement of the visa fee payment will be valid for 15 working days from the date of payment of such fee and applicants must ensure to submit their applications within this period.

    Methods of payments of visa Fee:
    The visa fees are payable into the British High Commission account by any of the following methods:
    1. Bankers Cheque
    Issued by any bank in Malawi, payable in Lilongwe, favouring the SCB - BHC Visa Fee Collections.
    2. Cash
    Cash payment at the South end Agency of National Bank of Malawi. Please note cash payment at any other branch or agency of National Bank of Malawi will attract bank charges.

    Important: Please use the applicant's passport number as the beneficiary reference if you choose to pay by cash at the designated bank. If the reference number differs from the applicant's passport number, the processing time of the application would increase.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:
    1. Please ensure that the applicant's passport number is used as a beneficiary reference if a cash deposit is selected as a method of payment. You will also require completing individual pay-slip-slips per applicant.
    2. Please ensure that the application is submitted at the UK Border Agency visa application centre immediately upon payment of the visa fee. The acknowledgement of the visa fee payment will be valid for 15 working days from the date of payment of such fee and applicants must ensure to submit their applications within this period.
    Dependants are charged the same fee as the main applicant. All dependants who are travelling must pay the fee whether or not they are included in the main applicant's passport.
    The visa application fee reflects the administrative costs of processing an application and is not refundable if your application is refused. If a payment has been made and the application is not submitted or if the applicant refuses to provide biometric details with their application, then we will refund the fee.

    Important: Dependants are charged the same fee as the main applicant. All dependants who are travelling must pay the fee whether or not they are included in the main applicant's passport.

    Refunds: A fee will be refundable only if the application is withdrawn in writing prior to any processing of the application and biometrics have not been taken, or if the applicant refuses to provide biometrics. Refunds will not be given if long term visit visas are granted for less than the period applied for.

    These fees are effective for all visa applications made from 6 April 2010. The consular rate of exchange is 250 Kwacha to £1.
